OFWs in Macau join search for top Filipina fashion models



Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Macau joined the first search for the Filipina fashion model of the year there, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

In a press statement, the DFA said the Philippine Consulate General in Macau held the search at the Macau Fisherman's Wharf Convention and Exhibition Center on August 7.

"The event not only featured the Filipina beauty through its 15 models who were (OFWs) in Macau, but also Philippine culture and artistry particularly in the field of fashion design, folk dances, and music," the DFA said.

The DFA said the show featured traditional ternos (gowns) and ethnic dresses representing different regions in the Philippines.

Executives from the hotel industry, some members of the Macau government and foreign Consulates joined hundreds of Filipinos in attending the cultural show.

The winners of the search included:
·  MerrilySamiosUy, "Miss Filipina Fashion Model of the Year in Macau 2011"
·  Maria Angelica Hilado, first Runner-up
·Inah Marie Quejano, second runner-up, and
·  PauletteQuinto, third runner-up.

Hilado also won the special awards for Best in Ethnic Attire and Miss Photogenic while Quintowas adjudged the Best in Philippine Terno.



The DFA said the search aimed to:
·  bring together Macau-based Filipinos and demonstrate the Filipino spirit of "bayanihan" (cooperation and unity);
·  showcase Filipino talent and creativity, and
·  create awareness on the Filipino community's contribution to the economic and cultural vibrancy of Macau. - VVP, GMA News
